WITH ACCESSORIES. Cal. 50 (pr). S# 10898 (on bottoms of barrels). These good quality pistols are not maker marked. They have 9 1/2" octagon barrels with well filed patent breeches. Bottoms are stamped with S# and Belgian proofs are on left flats and the number "1" is on right flat of one pistol. Front spring locks with flat plates with square tails are fitted with flat faced hammers with deep turnings at pivots. Triggers are set. European walnut stocks with chip carved flared grips and steel caps are iron mounted. Trigger plates have foliate finials, trigger guards have finger spurs, sideplates are of bat wing shape. Metal parts are engraved with scroll. Stocks have checkered grips and do not have provision for ramrods. Schnabled forend tips have floral carvings. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistols are housed in what appears to be their original burl walnut veneered case with brass trim and central brass rectangle engraved "GEB". Interior is lined in scarlet cloth and has retailers name "VERNEY JNE" "A LYON". Bottom compartment with gold cord outline is French fitted for pistols and accessories which include, brass and ebony loading rod, copper bodied powder flask, rosewood handled turnscrew, nutcracker type ball mould and turned olive wood cap container. A covered compartment with bone knob holds some balls and a key which does operate lock. CONDITION: good as partially refinished. Barrels retaining most of an old brown, twist pattern somewhat visible. All other metal parts are cleaned to silver gray. Stocks retain most of what appears to be most of their original finish. Bores are good, multi-grooved rifling strong. Lock of one pistol is good; trigger sets. On the other the trigger does not set, it will cock but is difficult to fire. Case has newer French polish on exterior with some loss of brass trim. Interior cloth is good, soiled and with compressions. Accessories are good. (01-23019/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
