Cal. 303 SAV. S# 240040. Bbl 20". Model 1899 takedown lever action rifle manufactured by Savage in 1922. Top of barrel is stamped with Savage's 2 line address, with the caliber designation stamped on the left side at the breech. Receiver is stamped "SAVAGE/ 1899 MODEL" over the chamber. Metal components are blued, with furniture consisting of a plain wood straight grip buttstock and plain schnabel tip forend. Factory blade front sight, with Savage U-notch rear sight, and Lyman tang rear sights. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leatherette case featuring a blue velvet lining and containing 1 box of 20 rounds of Winchester 303 Savage Super Speed ammunition. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, as well as areas of light surface oxidation overall. Lever retains fair amounts of its original case color hardened finish, exhibiting scattered spots of discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of pitting and retaining strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise very good overall. Case shows some exterior wear and some losses to its leatherette exterior at the edges, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Jon Thomas. (23-1663/MLW).
