SIGHT SET. The set consists of the Vernier sight staff with 1 1/16" disc, sight base, attachment screws, and wind gauge globe front sight with set of 3 additional interchangeable apertures. The long range rear sight has a base for the Winchester 1873 rifle. The front sight is described in the book as a Ballard front sight, as the hood on a Winchester sight is too long to fit. The Winchester long range staff is identical to the Ballard except for the thickness and the cut for the elevation spring. Brown leather wrapped case with green velour interior. Case lid is marked "WINCHESTER/ VERNIER/ AND/ WIND GAUGE/ SIGHTS.". Case dimensions are 7"x3.311"x1.462". This exact sight set is pictured on page 131 of "American Rifle Sights" by Tom Rowe. CONDITION: sight set is in very good physical condition retaining over 80% lightly faded original blue. Case shows light interior and exterior wear. (02-25098/DS). NON-GUN. $5,000-8,000.
