1912 SLIDE ACTION SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 GA, 2 9/16". S# 10828. Bbl. 25" of nickel steel, with an aftermarket large oval post Simmons V/R, having a long receiver extension. Glo-worm front sight. Action and bbl. have spectacular hand engraving by Torrance, CA engraver and former Los Angeles superior court judge, Cecil J. Mills. Game scenes on receiver sides have spectacular 2-color inlays that appear to be gold and silver. Right side woodland scene depicts 3 partridge. Left side upland scene depicts 3 pheasants with a pursuing fox. Left side of receiver game scene has engraver signature "C. Mills". Top of receiver features a gold inlaid woodcock. Balance of receiver, receiver extension, trigger guard bow, mag. tube band, as well as breech and muzzle ends of bbl. have vine type foliate scroll hand engraving with punch dot backgrounds. Action and fittings have extensive gold wire borders. Breech end of bbls. have gold bands. Serial number and proof marks have gold wire inlay. Gold finished trigger. Custom beavertail forearm and pistol grip stock of fancy claro walnut. Pistol grip has an ebony insert, with maple diamond inlay and spacer. Borderless segmented hand checkering has fleur-de-lis highlights. LOP: 14 1/2" over a thin black White Line pad. DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 5/8". Neutral cast. Weight: 7lbs. 2.2oz. Mfg. in 1913. CONDITION: fine, as upgraded. Bbl. and action retain 97% blue, showing slide tube wear. Stock finish shows a few scratches and marks. Sound mechanics. Pitted bore. (25-2104/DS). CURIO. $8,000-12,000.
