Pictured and described on page 180 in "THE FUR TRADE". Author, Milton von Damm: "This is an Indian ceremonial loin cloth made from trade cloth, green and gold ribbon, and edged with white beads. The stitching was done by a sewing machine, probably an early foot peddled type commonly found on Indian Reservations. The first successful mechanical sewing machine became available in the 1850's."
