Cal. 338.378 KT. S# 181. Bbl. 24 1/2" tapered octagon without provision for sights; Redfield JR scope bases. Mfg. by Champlin of Enid, OK as builder of custom rifles using their proprietary action along with superb craftsmanship; founded 1966. The 338-378 KT cartridge was designed by Elmer Keith and Bob Thompson in 1960's as long range elk cartridge to be used with 4831 powder, as it was slowest burning powder then available. They kept Weatherby's double radius shoulder but shortened case 1/4" to better suit burn rate of 4831. Performance mirrors modern 338 RUM. Cartridges must be custom hand loaded. Metal finish is subdued matte finish. Bolt lift is very minimal plus checkered panel on top of knob. Action features rolling safety on shroud, fine bolt release, inside trigger guard floor plate release, Allen head action screws, superb fully adjustable trigger (set for crisp, light release), octagonal shaped trigger guard ends and sculptured guard. Bolt and follower are jeweled. Bolt head has 3 locking lugs and post-64 Winchester style extractor for push feed loading. Four panels of checkering on stock with pointed accents; 13 1/2. Slight Monte Carlo cheek piece with shadow line. Pachmayr solid black pad with basket weave pattern. Classic ebony forend tip and checkered steel grip cap plus sling studs. CONDITION: all aspects near excellent including bore with new, unfired appearance. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Gun Sport Ltd. owned by Jon R. Thomas. (23-3167/NW). MODERN. $2,000-3,000.
