RIFLE. Cal. 50. NSN. Bbl. 39-3/4" full oct. smooth bore signed "C.B." Engraved lock is not signed. Curly maple stock has 10 silver inlays. 4 Piece brass patch box has 9 piercings. Curly maple stock is pinned to bbl. Charles Baum worked in New Berlin from 1832-1846 & was one of the Baum family of gunsmiths. He produced flint & percussion rifles & was still assessed as a gunsmith after the mid 1830's. CONDITION: the triangular piece of wood typically broken from shrinkage at the toe of the butt has been incorrectly replaced w/ new wood. Stock appears to have been cleaned.
