RIFLE. Cal. .577x450 Martini Henry. S# 19313. The 28-5/8" tapered round barrel with Nock form is engraved "Patent Smooth Bore Rifling" on top. Barrel is fitted with one standing, three folding leaf rear sight and protected bead front. Blued Martini tipping block single shot action fitted with toggling safety on right side is stamped with actual maker's logo (B under crossed flags) and "MARTINIS PATENT" on left and is engraved with maker's name and address on right side. Action borders are engraved with bands of knot work and lines. Lancaster S# 5405 (1882) is on trigger guard bow. Pistol grip buttstock of dark European walnut measures 14-5/8" over steel buttplate. Grip is checkered as is matching forend with carved horn tip which attaches to barrel with single screw. CONDITION: very good to fine. Metal retaining most of its original blue with considerable number of flecks of light rust overall. Stocks with dull oil finish show wear and many marks. There is recoil damage and missing wood at top of grip where stock abuts action. Bore is bright and shiny with a few scattered pits. Mechanically good. A cool old rifle. (01-25850/MGM).
