Cal. 69. S# NSN. France produced over 7 million of these muskets between 1777 -1839. This example is of the year IX type (post 1798 with finger grooves on grip & dished comb). The 39-1/2" barrel is unmarked. Lock with rounded tail has Charleville markings and crowned "B" proof in front of reinforced cock. Brass pan is inset, frizzen has straight toe and feather spring has bulbous finial with teat. Side plate is brass. All other furniture is iron. Barrel is held by three spring retained bands. Reproduction ramrod is present. CONDITION: fair to good. Iron parts with brown patina over considerable pitting. Stock has old oil refinish. There is missing wood behind lockplate and a crack at front. Slivers of wood are missing on barrel channel. Front band is quite loose. Barrel appears to be shortened. Bore is dark and rusty. Lock operable but soft. (01-25589/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,600.
