SABER. Overall length: 36 1/4". Blade length: 30 1/8”. This saber is likely of Widmann design and has a blade with a single wide fuller with gold highlighted etching on a blued field extending over half its length. Etching includes patriotic & foliate motifs featuring a spray of arms with federal shield. Silvered brass hilt with eagle embellished spade languets. Plain guard with scallop shell quillon. Embellished knuckle bow with an interesting wreath at the top being held in the eagle’s mouth. Grapevine decorated ferrule with wire-wrapped grip. Silvered brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina. The majority of the blued field is barely visible. Gilded etching remains reasonably strong. Quillon is bent down & hilt is slightly misshaped. Only traces of silver finish remain on the hilt. The wire wrap has a period repair in the center. Scabbard mounts show only traces of original silver. Leather remains strong. (02-19189/BF). $1,200-1,600.
