Overall length: 34 1/4". Blade length: 29 1/4". A single wide fullered blade with gold highlighted etching on a blue field over half its length. Etching includes foliate & patriotic motifs, including a federal shield. The ricasso is boldly stamped “A.BERGER”. Gilded brass hilt with a plain guard terminating an egg-shaped quillon. Knuckle bow has a central acanthus leaf motif. Well executed eagle head pommel with a plain backstrap & ferrule. Plain wooden grip appears to be original to the sword. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has an overall dark patina. Blued finish is quite faded, but gold highlighted etching remains strong. Hilt retains traces of original gilded finish. Scabbard is quite flexed and has a hole beginning 9" up from the tip. Mounts retain the majority of their original gilded finish.
