IDENTIFIED TO LT. COL. JACOB BROWN.
Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 32 5/8”. The blade has a single wide fuller with etching over the first 1/3 of the blade. Etching includes foliate, military & patriotic motifs featuring a federal shield & spray of arms. Gilded brass hilt with a large star on each languet. Plain guard with a disc quillon. Knuckle bow has a multi-twist motif. Plain backstrap with bird’s head pommel. Carved bone grip. Brass scabbard with oak leaf engraving featuring an American eagle atop a federal shield. There are 2 bands on the scabbard that read “Lt. Col. Jacob Brown” & “7th Artillery 1839”. CONDITION: blade has a gray mottled patina with significant wear to the etching. Hilt has a pleasing mustard patina with no traces of gilding remaining. Grip has several tight age cracks & chipping near the pommel. Scabbard has a few minor shallow dents.
