ROUND. A single cartridge produced circa. the 1870s-1880s for a gatling or Nordenfelt gun. "Coiled" brass cartridge casing with lead projectile. Base of cartridge is unmarked, save for a floral motif which encompasses the primer. Cartridge body features a strip of apparent tape around the circumference at and around the base area. Cartridge is complete with a large rnd. lead projectile. Side of cartridge is marked "524" below a layer of lacquer in black ink, followed by a later added "1" NORDENFELT/ C. : 1875/ Indian Wars $300..". Round is housed within a contemporary black cardboard box with cardboard and glass panel lid. CONDITION: brass cartridge has acquiring a pleasing mellow patina, with scattered spots of darker patina overall. Base shows scattered spots of chipping along the edges at the cartridge body. Lead projectile has acquired a white oxidized appearance. PROVENANCE: Norman Olliff Estate. (02-25680/MLW). AMMUNITION. $100-200.
