SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 50. S# 8178. Standard configuration, Bbl. 20", 2 leaf folding rear sight, inspected on left side "AJN" with matching serial number 8178 which would make this guns production 1863. This was among the most popular gun being used during the war. Even Confederates manufactured cartridges and more popular to capture. Frame stamped on either side: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" & "MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS". Stock has two well struck inspector cartouches and also shows saddle wear. CONDITION: good to very good overall, mottled grade iron patina, light pitting. Original blue finish unprotected areas the barrel, and traces of case colors on hammer. Mechanically fine, with bright rifled bore. (01-22918/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
