PHILLIPS, 53RD OVI & 59TH USCT". Cal. 31. S# 198283 . Standard configuration of late 1861 manufactured Colt pocket revolver, 6" octagon barrel, 1-line New York address. Professional fancy script inscription on butt strap: "R. Phillips" on backstrap. Mike Bricker attributes the inscription to Lt. Robert Phillips who enlisted September 1861 about the time of manufacture of this revolver, Phillips would go on to become Lieutenant Colonel in the 59th US Colored Troops June 28, 1863. The 59th was part of the African American forces desimated by N. B. Forrest at the Battle of Brice's Crossroads in June of 1864. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: folder with copy of page from text showing picture of Captain Phillips and business card of where purchased. CONDITION: good to very good overall, complete, original, all matching except wedge which is numbered 2732, metal overall gray patina, grips retain traces of their original bright factory varnish. Mechanically sluggish but functions, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24978/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
