HOLSTER ISSUED TO MAJOR GENERAL GAYLORD MCFALL, 4TH OHIO CAV. Cal. 44. S# 2094. Colt's new army revolver made to replace the dragoon and made concurrently in this serial range with the last dragoons in 1860. S# ranges for 1860 Army revolvers shipped to Governor William Dennison on June 14, 1861 are quite broad and have been observed anywhere from the 5XX S# range all the way up to the 4XXX range. Consignor supplied information states that #2094 was issued to Major Gaylord McFall, 4th Ohio Cav. McFall was married to consignor’s Great Grandfather’s Sister. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt Archive letter stating the following “Serial Number: 2094 / Caliber: .44/c / Barrel Length: 8” / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Wood / Shipped To: Governor William Dennison / Columbus, Ohio / Date of Shipment: June 14, 1861 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 300”. Also included is one unopened, string intact, 6 rd. pack 44 cal. Civil War production cartridges. CONDITION: very good overall, original, and complete, all matching serial numbers including wedge. German silver front sight has been shaved to a thinner blade, holster wear. Markings are good, mottled gray iron patina, grips are sound, well fit, with traces of original factory varnish. Mechanics are crisp, good rifled bore. Accompanying military flap holster is very good as is an original paper wrapped cartridge for display. (01-25836/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,500.
