TIFFANY. This well used US M1850 Foot Officer's sword measures 39 1/4" overall with an engraved blade that measures 32". The engraving includes a large "US", stand of arms, and a federal shield along with various foliate motifs. Near the ricasso is the etched mark "TIFFANY & Co NEW-YORK.". Gilded brass hilt with a pierced floral guard and classic pommel. The grip is wire wrapped sharkskin. Gilded brass mounted iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade is gorgeous but with some staining near the tip. Hilt is worn and retains 50% of the original gilding, but it would benefit from a good cleaning. Grip is worn but intact.
