A fine Civil war period U.S. Naval officer's sword with an overall length of 35 3/8" and a blade length of 27 5/8". The etched blade has a single wide fuller and is decorated with various naval, patriotic, and foliate motifs. The only makers mark at the ricasso is a beehive. Gilded brass hilt with a pierced guard showing the letters USN amongst oak leaves and acorns. Wire wrapped whitened sharkskin grip with a gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has substantial original factory polish and the hilt retains traces of its original gilded finish, The grip is worn but complete and the wire is 100%. The scabbard mounts have traces of original gilded finish and the body is solid but has a small hole near the drag. The screw on the drag is replaced and the dolphin at the tip is a bit bent.
