PINFIRE REVOLVER. Cal. 12mm. S# 31962. This was among the most popular cartridge revolvers in the world at the time of the Civil War, several thousand were imported during the Civil War to both Union and Confederacy. This example has suspect marking on top barrel flat "CSA 9 VA". Parts to these revolvers are excavated in Confederate cavalry camps and skirmish showing they did see considerable service. Standard configuration, patent cartouche on left side of frame. Chris Curtis collection, author "The Pinfire Book". CONDITION: good to very good overall, smooth plum/brown iron patina, sharp edges, good markings, crack repair to each grip panel, mechanically functional, good rifled bore. (01-22358/JS).
