OF AMMUNITION. Cal. 56-50. S# 26540. Standard configuration of the popular breech loading carbine that held 7 rds. in buttstock magazine. Abraham Lincoln himself tested one of these guns & recommended it for service regardless of its high price. Troops armed w/ Spencers had tremendous firepower as proven by the 5th Michigan at Gettysburg & Wilder's Brigade at Hoover's gap. 22" Bbl., 3 line address on top of breech. 2 Position adj. rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 7 rds. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Iron is overall mottled gray, 3 Line address is better than average w/ "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". Stocks are sound & solid w/ old varnish, sm. putty repair on forestock rear of band. Inspector cartouche on buttstock visible only in outline, sm. gap in fit between buttstock & top of breech. Mechanically functional w/ crisp rifled bore.
