A fine example of a Confederate button likely manufactured in the United States just before the war or slightly after the beginning of hostilities. It is believed that the "SUPERFIN PARIS" backmark was put on by a northern button manufacturer to avoid prosecution for shipping buttons to the South. Albert # AV-1-A5. Face depicts the Alabama state seal featuring a map on tree & the reverse reads, "SUPERFIN * PARIS *". Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains over 70% of its original gilded finish.
