A scarce example of a Confederate Engineer coat button commonly known as a manuscript “E”. This button was produced in England under contract to the Confederate Government. Generally, they were imported from England by blockade runners to Southern ports of entry & subsequently utilized throughout the Confederacy. Albert # CS-152-A-TYPE. Face depicts a single letter “E” in manuscript style. The reverse is marked, “(crest) RIVET'D & SOLDER'D". Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains approx. 25% of original gilded finish. Face of the button is slightly worn. (02-17633/BF). $1,800-2,500.
