BY E. M. LEWIS. A beautiful, excavated example of a Confederate Navy button often termed a "ship button". For years, this has been one of the most sought after and iconic of all Confederate buttons. This button was produced by E.M. Lewis of Richmond, Virginia. Albert # CS-68-A. Face depicts a 3 masted sailing ship with "C.S.N." below all surrounded by 15 six pointed stars. The reverse is marked RMDC, "E. M. LEWIS & CO RICHMOND,VA". Full straight shank. CONDITION: button has a dark excavated patina. There is a very slight nick on the edge of the reverse. This is one of the finest excavated examples we have encountered. (02-17698/BF). $3,000-3,800.
