Cal. 50. S# 1612. Popular Civil War breech loading carbine w/ low S#. This example appears well used w/ pitted frame. In standard configuration w/ 21 1/2" oct. rnd. bbl. w/ blade front sight & adj. rear sight. Break action breech w/ button inside trigger guard to open. Marked on left side of frame w/ mfg. & patent information. Approx. 30,000 of these guns were used during the Civil War by numerous cavalry units. CONDITION: fair overall. Hammer is replaced w/ welded musket hammer which still strikes cone properly. Buttstock has lg. glued repaired crack. Just a ghost of a cartouche can be seen. Metal is mixed dark gray patina w/ pitting, manufacturers markings are only partially discerned. Mechanically will not hold on full cock every time. Bore is shiny w/ thin rifling.
