A good standard example of a Union officer's frock coat of the Civil War period. The coat is void of rank insignia but does have all of its eagle "I" buttons indicating the owner was attached to an infantry unit. The buttons are all of the Civil War period and were made by Scovill of Connecticut. The front of the coat has a standard 9 button arrangement and the tails have 4 buttons as expected. The velvet lined collar is 1" at the front and 1 1/4" at the back. The bottom edge of the coat is raw and the swell at the elbows is 8 1/2". The black polished cotton lining has very narrow quilting and there is an interior strap and buckle for securing the coat. CONDITION: the coat is a bit dirty and has some insect tracking. The lining is faded and torn, particularly at the neck. (02-24579/BF). $1400-1800.
