ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 338-06. S# 012909. Bbl. 23" light sporter contour with "CLAYTON NELSON CUSTOM RIFLEMAKER" and ".338/06" markings. Clayton Nelson was an adjutant instructor of stock inletting at Trinidad School of Gunsmithing who was highly regarded for his stock work and was also proficient with metal work as well. Uncheckered straight comb stock with shadow line cheekpiece, stock reinforcement bolt and ebony forend tip; likely not by Nelson as it is not checkered and of a slightly lesser degree of workmanship than the craftsmanship he typically displayed. Lightweight stock with Pachmayr Old English style Decelerator recoil pad and sling bases to include standard front base and special rear base contoured to raised pad on stock. Fully glass bedded with Microbed to include full barrel channel and triggerguard. Grip cap is blued steel with a scalloped edge and indexed attachment screw. The 1909 Argentine Mauser is highly regarded for custom rifles having a hinged trigger guard assembly without typical military locking screws. Trigger guard is shaped and floorplate has scroll engraving along with a ram's head plus "C. Nelson" at rear. Bolt has swept back bolt handle of modern custom style; polished body with blued extractor and handle. Shroud has Model 70 style wing safety. Fitted with Blackburn adjustable trigger and steel Weaver style bases. CONDITION: overall near excellent appearance with a couple of faint handling marks on stock; left side near recoil bolt. Near excellent bore. (25-2458/NW). MODERN. $1,200-1,800.
