GRADE O/U SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 GA, 2 3/4". S# 8789S69. Bbl. 26 3/8". Superposed Midas grade O/U shotgun mfg. in Belgium and imported by Browning Arms Company in 1969. Left side of the bbl. is marked with Browning's importer information above "MADE IN BELGIUM", with the cal. designation and patent information marked on the right. Sides of bbls. are marked with Belgian proofs below the wood line. This example is master engraved by R. Coenen, featuring near full coverage relief scroll on a matte punch dot background on the receiver and trigger guard, with panels of matching scrollwork present at the breech, as well as on the forend iron assembly. The left side of the receiver features a gold inlaid scene of 3 pheasant, with a scene of 3 duck on the right, as well as a small scene of sole quail on the underside. Left side of receiver is signed "R. COENEN" in the bottom right corner. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, which features a gold plated finish. Finely checkered pistol grip buttstock and forend. Underside of buttstock is inlaid with an oval escutcheon, which is engraved "RCL". Matte V/R, with white bead front sight, and fixed Improved Modified chokes. All serialized parts are matching and include the receiver, bbls., forend iron, and forend. Recoil pad is absent. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cardboard box. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, with the receiver exhibiting areas of surface oxidation, primarily on the forward edges of the receiver. Upper bbl. exhibits concentrated areas of moderate pitting, with some scattered spots of surface oxidation. Forend iron shows scattered areas of surface oxidation, with moderate pitting present on the right side. Near mirror bores, exhibiting scattered flecks of what appear to be either pinprick oxidation or pitting throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with scattered areas of bubbling and flaking to the varnish, which is primarily present on the forend. Left side of the buttstock exhibits a crack, which measures approx. 1" that stems from the rear receiver tang. (24-6493/MLW). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
