SAM DYKE COLLECTION. Cal. 42. NSN. 12.5" Overall, 7 3/8" oct. to rnd. cannon bbl. Large, raised wedding ring transition, brass covered iron tang. Hand forged lock w/ long rebated tail, unbridled frizzen, signed “WL” internally, chiseled frizzen spring terminating in elegant scroll foot. Simple brass mounts, long sideplate, other than the well sculpted unique American lion in butt. Stocked in striped maple w/ moldings & beaver tails. This grotesque lion head on butt is the same motif often seen on American made officer’s sword pommels that date prior to Revolutionary war. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of letters from Frank Klay 1964 concerning sale of pistol from Sam Dyke collection. PROVENANCE: Sam Dyke collection; Frank Klay; Dr. Howard Engle, 1964. CONDITION: very good overall. Brass cleaned & toned yellow patina, lock has smooth dark iron patina. Stock is sound w/ crack repair to wrist & chip missing at tail of lock.
