Cal. 44. S# 48809. Bbl. 8", round with a New York address. Replacement hooded bead front sight. Six-shot round, rebated cyl. with naval scene roll engraving. Blue and case-colored finish with silver-finished brass trigger guard. Action has provisions for shoulder stock attachment. One-piece walnut grips; both panels have partially visible cartouches. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl., and wedge have matching numbers. Mfg. 1862 during the American Civil War. CONDITION: bbl. shows a small amount of fading blue, with area of pitting on the left side and evidence of cleaning on middle portions. Cyl. has faded to brown, retaining 50% of its scene. Frame has 40% of its case colors on sides. Brass grip strap is cleaned bright. Backstrap has an added hole for an unknown purpose. Grips show wear and handling marks with dents at the butt and small chips at the toe. Cyl. shows some side play. Lightly pitted bore with sound rifling.
