REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 11760. Bbl. 7 1/2" w/ blade sight. Six shot long flute cyl. Full nickel finished w/ fire blue hammer & trigger. 2 piece checkered hard rubber rampant colt round butt grips w/ lanyard ring at butt. Mfg. 1883. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt firearms letting listing the following information: "COLT MODEL 1878 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER", "Serial Number: 11760", "Caliber: .45/c", "Barrel Length: 7 1/2", "Finish: Blue", "Type of Stocks: Not listed", "Shipped To: Hartley & Graham", "Address: New York, New York", "Date of Shipment: October 27, 1883" & "Number of Same Guns in Shipment: 40". Black ring binder w/ a large volume of information about the revolver from the Canadian National Archives. Registration certificates, military records & Canadian war history as well as photos. A chain of custody for the revolver is detailed starting w/ Colt to Hartley & Graham to the Canadian government to three subsequent owners to the consignor. A copy of the gun report volume 43, no. 1 June 1997 is included w/ an article starting on page 31 about the Canadian Militia & Defense colt 1878 revolvers. This revolver & its holster are pictured in the article. Leather flap holster & belt w/ brass hook. Inside flap has hand-written marking "P. V. C. Tice" & stamped name "A. Laurie". Belt & holster are in fair to good condition. SPECIAL NOTE: This revolver was issued in two historical Canadian wars; A) The North West Rebellion (Canada’s Indian War of 1885). B) The 1899-1902 South African War. This was the first time in history that Canada dispatched troops to an overseas war. The names on the holster as well as the last registered owner were all in the same unit in South Africa. CONDITION: very fine as is the finest condition gun known to have taken part in both wars, along with the original holster & belt. Retaining over 95% nickel finish showing carry wear on backstrap & small spots. Grips show light wear. Sound mechanics. Bore retains strong rifling. (01-22034/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,500-6,000.
