Cal. 41 Rimfire. S# 994. Bbl. 2 1/2" round w/ semi-circular German silver sight. Bbl. & frame have class C factory engraving done in the NYC style. Engraving consists of vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds & fancy borders. Blue finish bbl. w/ silver finish frame. 2 piece checkered factory ivory grips. This variation retains the very rare pot bellied or bubble frame and has a high hammer. Second type late production third model. Top of bbl. has large block letter italic "COLT" marking. Introduced in 1870, this style Deringer was mfg. up to about S# 2400. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: the book by L. D. Eberhart titled "The Collecting of Deringers Manufactured by MOORE, NATIONAL and COLT". This rare pistol is pictured on page 50 and featured on the front cover of Eberhart's book. Also includes photographs & reprinted articles from Man At Arms. Mr. Eberhart's research indicates he could find no other engraved gun of this variation. CONDITION: bbl. retains 60% fading blue. Frame retains 75% silver finish showing some tarnish. Grips show light wear. Bore shows scattered pitting. PROVENANCE: Ex-Doug Eberhart Collection. (01-24168/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
