SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER ENGRAVED BY MASTER ENGRAVER JOHN ADAMS. Cal. 44. S# 216025. Bbl 8". 1 of only 50 Colt Custom Shop Second Generation Model 1860 Army revolvers custom engraved by master engraver John Adams. The top of the barrel is stamped "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", with "COLT'S/ PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Frame exhibits full coverage engraving, featuring scrollwork on a punch dot background and sections of diamond and dot patterns engraved on the underside of the cylinder, with an eagle's head that is engraved on the left side. Rear grip strap features a patriotic flag, with Samuel Colt's signature between light scroll engraving. Underside of frame is engraved "J.ADAMS" below the serial number. Barrel exhibits matching scroll engraving on a punch dot background stemming from the breech, with an engraved band around the muzzle. Rebated cylinder is engraved with a naval scene by W.L. Ormsby, with light scrollwork at the rear. Frame, cylinder, and barrel exhibit a stainless steel finish, with the loading lever being case color hardened, and the trigger guard being of polished brass. Frame is mounted with a 1 piece smooth wood grip. Butt is cut for a detachable shoulder stock. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt wood display case featuring a blue velvet interior. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components exhibiting a few superficial marks from handling and storage. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grip shows a few minor handling marks, but otherwise is very good overall. Case shows some minor marks from handling and storage, with a small area of marring on one corner of the lid, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-23822/MLW). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
