U.S. HOLSTER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 480023. Bbl. 2". Detective Special double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1945. The left side of the bbl. is marked "38", followed by "DETECTIVE/ SPECIAL", with Colt's mfg. and patent information marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo. Left side of frame is stamped with a "P" over the cyl., latch, with "US" crudely stamped on the rear grip strap. Both proofs appear spurious, as records indicate that the final shipments of Detective Special revolvers to the U.S. government and military were received in 1944. Metal components exhibit a reapplied parkerized finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered wood grips. Half-moon blade front sight, with frame notched rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: U.S. marked Boyt 1943 dated brown leather holster. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their reapplied parkerized finish overall, exhibiting some areas of pitting beneath the finish. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered areas of dark pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are good, showing smoothing, with scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting wear overall. (24-6867/MLW). CURIO. $400-600.
