EXTREMELY RARE CONICAL FIRING PIN. Cal 22. RF. S# 425, Type 1, 2 7/8" barrel with ejector. Boettger nickel plating. Half moon front sight. First style bbl address measuring 1.29". Seven shot cyl. Revolver has the rare Type 1 hammer with conical striker. C. 100 such models were made within the first 475 long barrel OT-22s. Of these, 19 are known. . First type stylized barrel key, as found on the first 2,600 produced. The standard walnut bird's head grips are numbered 294. (Note: the ".22 caliber" stamp is not present. This marking first appears in Second Production at c. 8000). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Copy of COLT- SMITH & WESSON. A CLASH OF ARMS. Featuring Colt's Battle Born Open Top .22, by Robert Swartz is included. CONDITION: fine overall. Metal retains approx. 90% original Boettger nickel with scattered light handling marks & areas of flaking nickel; notable on sides of frame below cyl. It appears the plating there was purposely removed, perhaps to test adhesion of the Boettger against that of Adams plating (introduced in 1872), Boettger may have had better adhesion, but it lacked Adams' brightness and reflectivity. Grips are very good and have only very light handling marks with mild finish wear to high edges. Fair bore displays strong rifling with areas of light pitting. Mechanically excellent. (01-26593/BH). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
