REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 248146. Bbl. 5". Model 1849 Pocket single-action percussion revolver mfg. by Colt in 1863. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Colt's mfg. information. Left side of the frame is faintly marked "COLTS/ PATENT." Iron components exhibit a reapplied blue finish. Brass trigger guard and backstrap, with a one-piece smooth wood grip. Grip appears to have been lightly sanded and revarnished at one time. Brass front sight has been flattened. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cyl., cyl. base pin, bbl., bbl. wedge, as well as the loading lever. CONDITION: iron components retain fair amounts of their reapplied blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a mixture of brown and gray patinas, with varying degrees of pitting present overall. Brass trigger guard and backstrap appear to have been cleaned at one time, with some areas of age-related discoloration. Dark, pitted bore, retaining strong rifling throughout. Grip exhibits some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: from the collection of a Tennessee gentleman.
