REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 123683. Bbl. 4". Model 1849 Pocket single-action percussion revolver mfg. by Colt in 1856. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Colt's mfg. information. Left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/ PATENT". Silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap, with a one-piece, smooth wood grip. Grip has been sanded and revarnished at one time. Brass bead front sight with "V" hammer notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cyl., cyl. base pin, bbl., loading lever, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. The forward trigger guard screw and two of the frame screws are contemporary replacements. Bbl. wedge appears to be a contemporary replacement. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: entry from 2018 catalog offering this gun. CONDITION: Metal components exhibit a dark gray patina, with areas of surface oxidation and pitting present overall. The trigger guard and rear grip strap retain traces of their original silver plating, with the balance exhibiting a mottled patina. Dark, pitted bore, retaining strong rifling throughout. Grip is good, as sanded and revarnished, exhibiting scattered handling marks, several carved notches, as well as a chip on either side at the front edges of the butt. (01-26347/MLW).
