REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 35737. Bbl. 7 3/4". Model 1860 Army single action percussion revolver mfg. by Colt in 1862. The top of the bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address, which is partially obscured by small indentations. Left side of frame is stamped "COLTS/ PATENT" with "44 CAL" stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Grip is carved "L B" on the right side of the butt. 4-screw frame with iron backstrap with slot for a shoulder stock attachment. Brass trigger guard. 1-piece smooth wood grip exhibits a repair on the left side on the bottom left corner. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cyl. base pin, cyl., bbl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Bbl. wedge is unnumbered. Trigger guard / rear grip strap screw is improper replacements. Bbl. wedge screw is a contemporary replacement, and cyl. base pin has been modified via the removal of some material in-line with the bbl. wedge screw slot to accommodate the extra length of the new screw. CONDITION: metal components exhibit dark gray and brown patinas, with scattered handling marks and and areas of dark oxidation overall. Left side of frame exhibits a small broken section, just below the hammer screw, with several chips present on the cyl. around the edges of the nipple cuts. Bore is bright, exhibiting moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. Grip exhibits scattered marks and minor impressions, as well as a chip to the on the right side to the bottom right corner, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-24487/MLW).
