Cal. 38 CF. S# 1359. Rnd. bbl. altered from percussion type w/ plugged loading lever slot & groove for ejector rod. Bbl. was later shortened to 2 15/16" w/ rounding at muzzle & having ejector removed. Such "belly gun" conversions are often associated w/ use by frontier gun fighters. Rnd. rebated conversion cyl. w/ stage coach scene roll engraving. Brass backstrap & triggerguard. Full nickel finish w/ case colored hammer & trigger. Triggerguard & backstrap have matching numbers. S#s are indistinguishable on other parts. Bbl. markings & cyl. scene are partially visible. One piece walnut grip. Right grip panel is ornamented by 7 tacks in an upside down "Y" pattern. An estimated quantity of 6500 were converted to cartridge configuration 1873-1875. CONDITION: 40% nickel finish blending w/ areas of wear & patina. Grips show heavy wear & handling marks.
