SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 38 RF. S# 1121. Bbl. 4 1/2". Model 1862 Navy cartridge conversion single action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1873. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Colt's single line address. Right side of the bbl. is stamped "W.H. BAKER," with "W.H.B." stamped on the left. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 2-line patent information. Cyl is engraved with Colt's stagecoach hold-up scene. Brass trigger guard and rear grip strap are fitted with a one-piece smooth wood grip. Brass bead front sight, with hammer notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Bbl. is numbered "1469" and cyl. is numbered "697." Matching assembly # "668" is present on the cyl. base pin and loading gate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: generic soft case. CONDITION: steel components exhibit a gray patina overall, with scattered handling marks, spots of pitting, oxidation, and pitting present overall. Brass trigger guard and rear grip strap have been cleaned at one time, exhibiting scattered spots of age-related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered spots of dark pitting while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grip shows wear and smoothing, as well as some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: from the collection of a Tennessee gentleman.
