FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 26971. Bbl. 7 1/2". Model 1878 revolver mfg. by Colt in 1890. Bbl. exhibits standard factory markings, with the encircled Rampant Colt logo marked on the left side of the frame. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered brown hard rubber grips. Blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. Butt features a lanyard loop which is fitted with a period brown leather strap. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame and cyl. Grips are matching via "71" in white grease pencil on the interior of the panels. Frame and loading gate exhibit a matching "216" assembly #. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating "Serial Number: 26971/ Caliber: .45/c/ Barrel Length: 7 1/2"/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Not Listed/ Shipped To: E. C. Meacham Arms Company/ Address: St. Louis, Missouri/ Date of Shipment: November 21, 1890/ Number of Same Type/ Guns in Shipment: 10". CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original factory blue finish, with the balance fading to brown patina, showing areas of light to mild surface oxidation and a few areas of mild pitting overall. Bbl. shows what appears to be traces of an old cold blue touch up. Bright bore, exhibiting small scattered spots of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand, with stiff function in DA mode. Grips show heavy wear and smoothing, with the left panel exhibiting a repaired chip on the rear towards the butt. Leather strap remains malleable, showing age related cracking and crazing overall. (01-27262/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,250.
