Cal. 12 Ga. 2-5/8". S# 5937. Colt was justifiably proud of these finely made double-shotguns. This example has 30" fine damascus barrels marked with the Colt name and address on a flat matted rib set with two white beads. Case-hardened boxlock-type action features automatic safety and double triggers. The action is engraved in Colt's lowest grade style with geometric borders and a trigger plate with patent information. S# is on trigger guardtang. Most of these guns had good wood, but the pistol grip buttstock on this example is very attractive, with beautifully fiddle-figured European walnut interspersed with fine dark marbling. Stock measures 14-3/8" over hard rubber buttplate with rampant colt. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant silver oval is on the toeline. A matching splinter forend with an inlet horn tip is Colt's adaptation of a Deeley latch. MEASUREMENTS: Bbls: bore diameter: L .730; R .727. Restriction: L .029 (full); R .017 (mod). Wall thickness: L .022; R .034. STOCK: DAH: 3-1/4". DAC: 1-5/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-3/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb., 13 oz. CONDITION: very good to fine as partially restored. The checkering is slightly worn. Forend checkering with some re-cutting. Bores are bright and shiny without any noted problems. Action is tight. Screws are out of time. (01-24659/MGM).
