Cal. 45 ACP. S# 42739. Bbl. 5" Colt Type 4 rather than correct Type 3. Mfg. January to August 19, 1913. 15,037 Navy Colts mfg. between March 9, 1912 & March 5, 1915. S# 38001 to 43900 are known to be associated with USS New York. Hammer appears to be earlier Colt Type A rather than Type B; all other features correct for model including checkered double diamond walnut grips. Correct round top U notch sight on slide plus sharp leg style spring guide with extreme tips not present. Correct "WGP" inspector initials along w/ "H" provisional acceptance mark on top of frame and rear of slide; correct barrel would also have had "H" on rear of hood. MAGS: 1 good plus two tone 7 round with lanyard loop. CONDITION: good to very good appearance with scattered light pitting along with occasional mottled appearance of thinning finish as would be expected for naval environment firearms. Grip area has blue gray patina appearance. Light holster like high point wear and light scratches including one from typical improper slide stop installation. Very good grips with only slight diamond top wear. Worn finish on top of grip screws. Fair bore with noticeable wear and dark pitted grooves. (22-4250/NW). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
