FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 12588. Bbl. 5 1/2". New Service DA revolver mfg. by Colt in 1905. The left side of the bbl. is marked "NEW SERVICE" followed by "45 COLT", with Colt's 2 line address and patent information marked across the top. Left side of frame is marked " * COLT'S */ NEW SERVICE" in a circle around the Rampant Colt logo. Metal components exhibit a lustrous factory blue finish, with the trigger and frame screws having been fire blued. Frame is mounted with "COLT" 2 piece checkered hard rubber grips. Clip point blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. Grips do not match. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter indicating that this example was the sole revolver shipped to Col. Edward J. Dimmick (address unavailable) on April 26th of 1905. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that shows through to pleasing gray and brown patinas, with scattered spots of surface oxidation and some scattered spots of pitting overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting sharp rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing and some scattered marks and minor chips from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable.
