FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 44-40. S# 336482. Bbl. 4 1/2". New Service DA revolver mfg. by Colt in 1933. The left side of the bbl. is marked "NEW SERVICE 44-40", with Colt's 2 line address across the top. Left side of frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo and "VP" proof. Metal components retain a dull blue factory finish, with the bbl. exhibiting a lustrous high polish blue finish. Bbl. is an earlier (1909-1926) production replacement. Frame is mounted with 2 piece "COLT" checkered hard rubber grips. Clipped blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter indicating that this example was one of 48 revolvers shipped to Wolf and Klar Wholesale Sporting Goods Co. in Fort Worth, TX on February 2nd, 1938. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finishes, exhibiting some spots of mild wear that show through to gray and brown patinas, scattered spots of surface oxidation, as well as some areas of pitting. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing and scattered marks from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a loss at the bottom right corner.
