Caliber: 44. Serial Number: 52630. Barrel: 8" round with blade sight. Six shot round rebated cylinder with naval engagement scene roll engraving. It was common practice for the large New York wholesale houses to have guns upgraded and engraved per customer request. These guns were sent to the shops of the same engravers that did piece work for various manufacturers. Frame, breech and muzzle ends of barrel, backstrap and brass trigger guard have 50% coverage of vine type foliate scroll hand engraving with punch dot backgrounds. Sides of hammer are engraved with a dragon head motif. Silver finish. 1 piece checkered Ivory grips. Barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder and wedge have matching numbers. Manufactured: 1862 during the American Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: housed in a period rosewood casing with rectangular brass nameplate on lid. Black velour fitted interior. Case contains Colt's patent marked powder flask, 2 cavity mold, Eley cap tin, case key & round balls and bullets. Also includes 1 wrapped box of American Powder Company 44-100 combustible envelope cartridges. CONDITION: barrel, frame, grip straps and loading lever retain 30% silver finish. Cylinder has bright cleaned appearance. Grips have acquired a mild yellow appearance with age and show some age related checking at butt. Action shows some wear with slightly slow timing.
