Cal. 41 RF. S# 1299. Bbl. 2 1/2" with brass blade sight; "1299" on bottom and Colt marks on top to include "No. 1". Mfg. 1870-1890 (6,500 units) as continuation with improvements of Moore's Patent / Mass. Arms derringers of 1860-1870. First production utilized Mass. Arms former employees to begin manufacture. It retained the profile and all metal construction of its predecessors along with standard decorative engraving. Noticeable changes are iron frame (not brass), shorter straight spur trigger, friction plate to prevent barrel pivot looseness and smoother profile of barrel pivot screw; any other "improvements" are not readily apparent. Silver plated finish and "R" stamped on breech face. CONDITION: brown patina throughout with minimal remnants of original silver plating; most distinctive within breech area. Hammer pivot screw appears replacement from another derringer as it will not index correctly to frame profile. Good bore with minimal spots of cleaned pitting; exceptional for 41 RF black powder bore. (01-22152/NW). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
