REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 625737. Bbl. 6". Officers Model .38 Heavy bbl. double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1938 (serialized in sequence with the Official Police revolver). The left side of the bbl. is marked "OFFICERS MODEL 38/ HEAVY BARREL" (both lines between Maltese crosses), with Colt's 2-line mfg. and patent information marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the top strap of the frame exhibiting a matte blue finish. Sides of the hammer are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with a later production 1-piece Colt gold medallion checkered black rubber Pachmayr "Gripper" grip. Patridge blade front sight (rear face painted yellow) with adj. square notch rear sight. Hammer has been "skeletonized" via the removal of a tear dropped section of material at the spur area, with 3 grooves added forward of the checkered panel on the spur. Custom tuned action allows only single action function, with double action rotating the cyl., but not cocking the hammer. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame and cyl. crane. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some light edge wear, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Underside of frame and trigger guard bow exhibit areas of wear and thinning fading to brown patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few small spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics in-line with aforementioned action tuning statement. Grip shows some light wear, with a tear stemming from the butt and running up the rear grip strap area. (25-5114/MLW). CURIO. $400-600.
