Cal. 44-40. S# 315670. Bbl. 5 1/2" w/ tapered blade front sight & frame notch at rear. Proper top of bbl. markings & left side marked "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40" that is stamped not etched. Left of side of trigger guard stamped "VP" at front & incomplete "W" at rear. Crescent shape D ejector rod head. Mfg. 1910 w/ matching numbered grip frame. Case colored frame & hammer; per Wilson's Colt book, hammers after 1890s were blued w/ in the white sides. Matching assembly No. on right rear of frame, under hunter grip strap & loading gate. Second most common cal. (64,489 units) next to 45 LC (150,683 units). CONDITION: very good overall w/ areas of grip frame having deep reflective blued finish. Especially nice case colors w/ only slight fading. Noticeably vivid fire blue on sides of trigger & screws w/ very slight slot marks on grip frame screws. Outer edge of ejector housing w/ slight gray patina appearance; also present on right side of bbl. at muzzle. Light scattered scratches w/ very sm. spots of finish loss on left side of bbl.; front third. Occasional sm. spot of pinprick oxidation. Good 1 piece walnut grip w/ frame slightly proud throughout being less proud at butt. Edge sharpness compromised on left side of grip at butt & some minor marks on bottom; mostly on right side. Very good appearance of blued firing pin & proper fine hammer checkering. Trigger guard section of grip frame w/ locating pin hole. Replacement in the white hammer spring. Near excellent bore (fine lands) & cyl. chambers. Light radial scratches throughout length of cyl. Near excellent timing but hair trigger at full cock. Safety notch & half cock appear fine.
