REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 8177. Bbl. 7 1/2" part round with German silver blade sight. 6 Shot round cylinder with Texas Ranger and Indian fight scene roll engraving. Blue and case colored finish with unplated brass square back trigger guard and backstrap. Left side of frame is marked "US" with "M" inspection mark. Vertical loading lever latch. Trigger guard has "H" inspection mark. Frame, barrel, cylinder, loading lever and wedge have matching serial numbers. 1 Piece walnut grips. Left panel has "JH" cartouche for sub inspector James Hawkins. Right panel has lightly visible cartouche that may be "WOF"(?). Total of about 2,700 were produced 1850-1851 continuing the serial number sequence of the First Models. Mfg. 1850. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to a mottled gray showing small dents and scattered light pitting. Cylinder retains over 75% nicely visible scene. Brass has a natural lightly tarnished appearance. Grips show wear and handling marks with small chips at toe and heel. Action is in time. Bore retains sound rifling showing scattered light pitting. (01-21608/DS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-9,000.
