FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 44 SPCL. S# 196764. Bbl 5 3/8". Single Action Army revolver manufactured by Colt in 1900. The left side of the barrel is stamped "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL", with Colt's single line address across the top. The left side of the frame is stamped with patent information followed by the encircled Rampant Colt logo. Metal components exhibit a reapplied dark blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2 piece black checkered plastic grips. Interior of left grip panel is inscribed "RUSTY/ JOHNSON". Cylinder and barrel are later production replacements. Revolver has been modified via the removal of the striker on the hammer and the addition of a free floating firing pin in the frame in the Christy’s conversion style. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating that this revolver was originally chambered in ".38/40" and was 1 of 8 revolvers shipped to Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis, MO on June 11th of 1900. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, as well as some spots of pitting that are present beneath the finish. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing and some scattered marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. (23-1807/MLW).
